What Lake Powell and Glen Canyon look like at any reservoir elevation between dead pool (3,370 ft), the lowest the dam can draw it, and full pool (3,700 ft). Drag the gauge and the water surface is re-rendered against a fused topobathymetric DEM, so submerged side canyons, arches and the Colorado River channel emerge as the level drops.
Elevations are feet above sea level, NGVD 1929 — the datum Glen Canyon Dam's own gauge publishes. Levels, river discharge and stage are read live from the USGS Instantaneous Values service; the September 2026 record low stands in when it is unreachable.
Terrain USGS 3DEP topography above water, fused with the USGS 2017–2018 multibeam bathymetry of Lake Powell below it (SIR 2022-5017).
Water data USGS National Water Information System. Roads & trails OpenStreetMap, served by OpenFreeMap. Basemaps USGS The National Map. Imagery modified Copernicus Sentinel-2 data.
Outlook the gauge's dry, likely and wet levels are the Bureau of Reclamation's 24-Month Study, transcribed by hand and dated on the gauge; its named ranges are those of the 2027–2028 Operating Guidelines.
How close is this to the real lake? The simulated shoreline is tested against dated satellite photographs on five dates spanning ninety feet of reservoir elevation — the comparison is here.
